FAQ

Q. Which images can I import?

You can import PNG (including APNG), JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and TGA. Animated GIF, APNG and animated WebP files are expanded into one frame per image.

Q. How are frames from an animated GIF named?

For walk.gif, the frames are named walk_0001, walk_0002 and so on. Each frame’s display time is exported as duration (in milliseconds) in the JSON.

Q. Which engines can use the exported JSON?

The JSON uses the same field names as TexturePacker’s “JSON (Hash)” and “JSON (Array)” (frame, rotated, trimmed, spriteSourceSize, sourceSize), so it loads in engines and libraries that support TexturePacker’s JSON, such as Phaser and PixiJS. For details, see “Using the exported files” in the User Guide.

Q. Which way are rotated sprites turned?

They are rotated 90° clockwise, and rotated is true in the JSON. Rotation is available with Skyline and Maximal Rectangles.

Q. I can’t select CSS

CSS can’t be exported while rotation or trimming is on, because CSS can’t represent rotated or trimmed frames.

Q. Why do I choose a folder when exporting?

A single export creates several files, such as a PNG and a JSON. AtlasKit saves the files in the folder you choose (on Mac, following the rules for Mac App Store apps, it can save only in the folder you choose). If files with the same names already exist, AtlasKit asks before overwriting them.

Q. Opening a project says “… files could not be found”

A project doesn’t copy the images themselves; it records where the original files are. If you moved or renamed the images, choose Locate Missing Files… and select the folder they are in now. AtlasKit looks for files with the same names and links them. You can also choose Open Without Them to open the project without the missing images.

Q. An image couldn’t be imported

Unsupported formats and damaged files can’t be imported. Click Issues at the bottom of the window to see which files couldn’t be imported and why.

Q. A message like “Frame … is larger than the cell” appears

When a sheet can’t be created with the current settings, AtlasKit shows the reason and what to do. Follow the message and change settings such as the max sheet size, cell size or margin.

Q. How do I change the display language?

Use AtlasKit > Language in the menu (View > Language on Windows) to switch between Japanese and English.
