This Privacy Policy describes how Daisuke Takayama (webcyou, “we”) handles user information in the app “LocalMarks” for macOS and Windows and its Chrome extension (together, the “App”).

This English version is a translation provided for convenience. If there is any difference between this version and the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.

1. Developer

2. Information we collect

We do not collect any of your information through the App.

The App has no accounts, and we do not operate any servers for it. The App does not include any third-party services (SDKs) for advertising, analytics, tracking, crash reporting or the like.

3. Saved articles

Information about the articles you save (URL, title, summary, article text, image URLs, read status, favorites, categories and so on) is stored only in a database on your computer. You can change the storage location in the App’s settings.

4. Chrome extension

Only when you save a page (with the toolbar icon, the keyboard shortcut or the right-click menu) does the Chrome extension read the URL, title and content (HTML) of the page you are viewing, or the URL of the link you right-clicked.

This information is sent only to the LocalMarks app running on the same computer (a local API listening on 127.0.0.1, authenticated with a connection token). It is never sent to any server on the internet.

The extension’s settings (port number and token) are stored in your browser.

5. Connecting to websites

When you save a page by entering its URL, or when you refetch a page, the App connects directly to that website to retrieve the page. Images in articles are loaded from the original website when they are displayed.

As with ordinary web browsing, these connections reveal information such as your IP address to the website. Each website handles that information according to its own privacy policy.

Playing YouTube videos

When you open a saved article that is a YouTube video, the App loads YouTube’s embedded player (youtube-nocookie.com, provided by Google LLC) to play the video. Your computer then communicates with YouTube, and that data is handled under YouTube’s privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). We do not receive any of this data.

This happens only when you open a YouTube video.

6. Backups

Backup files are written only to the location you choose.

7. In-app purchases

In-app purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) for the macOS version and by Microsoft (Microsoft Store) for the Windows version, and your payment information is never passed to us. Purchases are verified on your computer.

Information related to purchasing and downloading the macOS version, and crash reports and similar information that you choose to share with Apple, are handled by Apple. Please see Apple’s Privacy Policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/) for how Apple handles such information.

Information related to the Microsoft Store and Windows, such as purchasing and downloading the Windows version, is handled by Microsoft. Please see the Microsoft Privacy Statement (https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement) for how Microsoft handles such information.

8. Sharing with third parties

Because we do not collect your information, we do not share it with any third parties.

9. Deleting your data

  • You can delete articles in the App at any time
  • To delete all data, delete the App and then delete the folder shown under Data Location in the App’s settings
  • The extension’s settings are removed when you remove the extension from Chrome

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will announce it on this page. The revised policy takes effect when it is posted on this page.
